Hypochlorous acid isn’t new — it’s been studied for over 180 years. What we’ve done is stabilize it, certify it, and bring it to you at exactly the concentration your body would produce it. This page explains why that matters.
Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a natural molecule produced by your body’s white blood cells as part of the immune system. It helps defend against harmful microorganisms while being gentle on healthy tissue. Curativa Bay produces stabilized, high-purity hypochlorous acid using only ultra-purified water, natural sea salt, and electricity.
What makes it remarkable is not just its potency — it’s 80× more effective than bleach at neutralizing pathogens — but that it achieves this with zero toxicity to human tissue. The body makes it, uses it, and degrades it back to saline without leaving a trace.
Your own neutrophils produce HOCl through a process called oxidative burst — it's your body's natural first line of antimicrobial defense.
HOCl disrupts pathogen cell membranes through oxidation. Bacteria, viruses, and fungi cannot build resistance to this mechanism — unlike antibiotic-based approaches.
HOCl has been studied across a wide range of dermatological and clinical contexts. These are the use cases with the strongest published evidence base.
HOCl reduces P. acnes bacteria and Staph aureus colonization on acne-prone skin without disrupting the skin microbiome or causing dryness — unlike benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
HOCl is used in clinical settings for wound irrigation and post-surgical care. It reduces biofilm formation, promotes granulation tissue, and does not impair healing — unlike alcohol or iodine.
Randomized controlled trials show HOCl reduces Staph aureus colonization on eczema-affected skin and decreases SCORAD scores — without the steroid side effects of conventional treatment.
Used by plastic surgeons and dermatologists for post-laser, post-peel, and post-injection skin care. Reduces infection risk, soothes inflammation, and supports barrier recovery.
HOCl nasal irrigation reduces pathogen load, supports mucosal immunity, and has been studied as a supportive therapy for chronic sinusitis and upper respiratory infection prevention.
HOCl is safe for animal skin, eyes, and mucous membranes at 160 ppm. Used by veterinarians for wound care, hot spots, ear hygiene, and coat health in dogs and cats.
When used as directed, Curativa Bay products are designed to be non-irritating, pure and gentle on skin. Our formulas contain no alcohol, bleach, peroxide, or quaternary ammonium compounds.
Non- Toxic: Hypochlorous acid is naturally produced by the human immune system and breaks down into simple saline after use. Unlike many disinfectants, it does not leave harmful chemical residues.
Our stabilized technology is designed for exceptional purity and long shelf life while remaining free of alcohol, bleach, fragrances, dyes, and harsh chemicals.
Is it safe around children?
Yes. Once surfaces are treated according to label directions, Curativa Bay leaves no harsh chemical residues like many traditional disinfectants.
Many pet owners use Curativa Bay on dogs, cats, horses, and other animals.
Customers commonly use it for:
• Hot spots
• Minor cuts
• Skin irritation
• Paw care
• Ear flap cleaning (external only)
• Itchy skin
• Coat freshness
When used as directed, small incidental exposure from grooming is generally not considered harmful
Only use products specifically labeled or recommended for eye-area use and consult your veterinarian if your pet has an eye condition.
HOCl molecules reach the pathogen surface within milliseconds of application. As a small, uncharged molecule, it passes directly through the bacterial outer membrane — no carrier required, no delay.
Inside the cell, HOCl oxidizes key proteins and lipids in the cell membrane. This disrupts membrane integrity and halts cellular metabolism — the cell can no longer maintain its internal environment.
Because HOCl attacks the fundamental physical structure of the cell rather than a specific biochemical target, pathogens cannot develop resistance. There is no genetic workaround for oxidative membrane disruption.
After reacting with organic matter, HOCl breaks down into water and a trace of salt — leaving no residue, no toxic byproduct, and nothing that could irritate skin or disrupt your microbiome.
Most skincare products contain 15–30 ingredients. Ours contains three. That’s not a limitation — it’s the point. Every additional ingredient is another potential irritant, allergen, or interaction.
The source mineral that makes electrochemical production of HOCl possible. During our stabilization process, ultra-pure water and natural sea salt are passed through an electrochemical cell, converting the sodium chloride into hypochlorous acid and trace saline. The sea salt is fully consumed in the reaction — what remains in the bottle is HOCl and water, not salt.
Fully converted during electrochemical process
This is what separates Curativa Bay from the growing number of HOCl copycat products — certification can’t be faked, and ours has been in place since 2018.
